When it comes to midsize trucks, one of the best is the Toyota Tacoma. This year, the Tacoma only improved after it underwent a complete redesign. Now, the Tundra's little brother comes with many new features, strong powertrains, and several new trim options. What's New for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma?

This year, the Tacoma gets a full redesign with new trims, updated features, and a more potent powertrain. On top of that, the Tacoma also has better hauling and towing power thanks to its new body-on-frame TNGA-F platform.

Performance

Powering every new Tacoma is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. In models like the base SR, the engine outputs 228-hp, but all other trims use the i-Force variant that outputs 278 horsepower. Also, every engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual and is available with either rear- or four-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy

As a midsize truck, the Tacoma has a good fuel economy. When tested, the EPA found that rear-wheel drive models had an estimated 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Whereas four-wheel drive models go around 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.

Design

The Tacoma's exterior is like many other vehicles in its class. However, the interior of the model stands out the most. With the cabin redesign, the pickup is now made from nicer materials and offers a higher-resolution infotainment screen. A seven-inch digital gauge cluster is also standard, and in models like the TRD Off-Road and higher, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is available.

For drivers looking to customize their Tacoma, they'll have their pick of different cab styles and bed lengths. There's the extended cab, which is called the XtraCab, and a crew cab called the Double Cab. The XtraCab is available with a six-foot cargo bed, while the Double Cab is offered with either the longer bed or a shorter five-foot version.

Technology

Along with a redesigned cabin, the new Tacoma also offers a plethora of new tech. Standard on the Tacoma is an eight-inch touchscreen, but a larger 14.0-inch display is optional. There's also an even larger monitor offered on the Limited trim. Each display offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - however, features like a JBL audio system, wireless charging pad, and a 360-degree camera system are optional.

Safety

The Tacoma is just at home on the road as it is on a trial. As such, Toyota has made sure all Tacoma models are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 to ensure you stay safe regardless of where you travel. Offered in Safety Sense 3.0 is a forward collision warning with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure mitigation, and a lane-centering system. You can expect to find features like a 360-degree camera system and a blind-spot monitor in higher trims.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Trim Levels

The Toyota Tacoma ships in six trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD, Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. The first two trim levels ship with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that can pump out a reliable 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque.

The remaining trim level ship with a blazing 3.5-liter V6 engine making 287 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The six-speed automatic transmission makes it easy to have a seamless driving experience in the new Toyota Tacoma, and drivers who like to be more in control can couple the V6 engine with a six-speed manual transmission.
